Fall 2006-Spring 2007                   Phi Theta Kappa Omega Omega Chapter, President 

  • June 2006, served food at the Montclair Estates Retirement Community Benefit to raise money for the Battered Women Shelter in Dallas—over three hundred people attended.

  •  August-November 2006, managed recycle bins at the Methodist Dallas Hospital and collected over 3,000 aluminum cans to be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

  • September 2006, introduced the DCCCD Chancellor Dr. Wright Leister at the Fall Induction Phi Theta Kappa—over one-hundred people attended.

  • October 2006, assisted with art and activities for children’s at the Halloween event held for the Battered Women's Shelter in Dallas—over thirty children enjoyed the event.

  •  November 2006, assisted in designing the Honors Garden in order to beautify the Mountain View College campus.

  •  April 2006 and March 2007, organized the Children’s Spring Festival for over five hundred children and families of the Dallas, Duncanville, and Desoto communities.

  • May 2007, assisted in collecting used textbooks for Better World Books collected over five hundred books.

Fall 2007- Summer 2008       Art, Club President

  • August 2007, demonstrated Student Awareness in preserving Art.

  • October 2007, organized and coordinated the Mountain View College Domestic Violence Event—over two-hundred students were present.

  • October 2007, organized and helped create a collective Art Club Art piece for the Art Auction.

  • November 2007, attended the Oak-Cliff Center Silent Auction to observe art and donate money for scholarships.

  • November 2007, organized the Art Auction—over one-hundred students participated and earned over twelve-hundred dollars for art scholarships.

  • November 2007, organized and hosted the Art Auction for the first time presented in the MVC Tree Top Gallery and on the internet.

  • January - March 2008, coordinated and assisted in ceramic bowl art making

  • February 2008- March 2008, organized and coordinated D.W.A. Top Secrete Day Without Art held in the Kiva Gallery

  • 2007, Read books and assembled and flew kites with children at the Kite Festival.

  •  March 2008, handmade ceramic bowls and held a fundraiser to earn money for scholarships for art students.

  • 2006, helped coordinate and held a booth while attending Earth Day Festival.

  • August 2007- March 2008 held as Committee Chair.

  • 2007, lobbied in Austin (petition legislation), Community Colleges textbooks and lower tuition. Twenty-five people from Mountain View College joined over three thousand students at the Capital   

  • March 2008, helped by recruiting artists to donate work for the Silent Auction.

  • October 2007, used my makeup artist skills to assemble an custom and assisted children from Bethune Elementary around the MVC for Trick-O-Treating.

  • January- February 2008, organized a coat drive for a low income Oak Cliff school and went on two separate occasions to give the children of Winnetka winter coats.

  •  2007, assemble props for a booth and attended the Health Fair.

  • February-March 2008, Collected school supplies for the John Bul Dau Sudan Foundation.

  • March 2008, sponsored a Grand Prairie High School Student for prom.

  • February 2008, coordinated, Photographed Valentines Pictures for a Fundraiser to earn money for student scholarships.

2006-2008       Honors Scholars Program completed in English, Ethics, Art, World Lit, Government, and History

2006-2008       Odyssey Leadership completed two separate Odyssey Leadership Studies two years consecutively.

2006-2008       Mountain View College Student Ambassador

  • February 2006, hosted Dr. Sheron Patterson: He Said, She Said: Communicative Styles-over seventy students participated.

  • November 2006, facilitated a student forum with guest speaker Martin Luther King III on the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Study topic Gold, Gods, and Glory: the Global Dynamics of Power.  Over seventy-five people were present.

  • September 2007, hosted Teja Arboleda: Healing Racism—over two-hundred students participated.

  • October 2007, hosted Ms. Chavez Rodriquez, the granddaughter of Caesar Chavez: Building Communities Lecture Series—over three-hundred students present.

  • February 2007, hosted Lisa Ling: Building Communities Lecture Series--over four-hundred students were present.

  • March 2008, the only student chosen to be on a women’s panel for MVC topic: balancing work and school.

Fall 2006- Sumner 2008       Service Learning Projects

  • Service Learning Art Educator Project

    • Teaching children how to work with different media.  I also created an Art curriculum.  On average I worked with more than one-hundred children in a low income area in Dallas. Some of the children had never experienced art.

  • Service Learning Boy Scout of America Project

    • Held weekly meetings where I provided projects for the boys to earn merit badges, assisted in a weekend camp out, organized a can food drive and trash pick up in Oak Cliff area of Dallas. Assisted the Oak Cliff community and the children in Circle Ten.

  • Methodist Service Learning Project 

    • Transferring patients and assisted with suicidal patient watch. I helped support Methodist Health Systems nurses, doctors, staff and patients.

  • Rosemont Elementary School Service Learning Project

    • Over thirty hours volunteering in the classroom at the elementary school.

  • Salazar Elementary School Service Learning Project 

    • Over twenty hours volunteering in the classroom at the elementary school.
